Intro

Scarlet Blackwell started her writing journey in 2013, following a friend's suggestion to have fun doing 1-on-1 fiction writing with them. Throughout high school, this continued to be her main hobby, spending the next four years writing to her heart's content, and finding a passion that she wanted to improve in. She found different friends and avenues to write with, always wanting to challenge herself and get better as her own personal goals and interests. However, she didn't know what she wanted to do in her life.

Between 2016 and 2017, Scarlet went on to community college for Game Design, wanting to write her way into the gaming industry. She created her own game ideas, unique stories, and teamed up with a group in her major to create video games and being the main narrative designer on the team. From there, she transferred to a four-year college to continue on to get her Bachelor's.

In 2018, Scarlet started her first year at her new college, believing it was the next step in her path to being a narrative designer for video games. Unfortunately, she then later found out that this wasn't such a straightforward path, or even the most efficient. She attempted to write her first novel in 2018, falling short when she lost motivation in the expectations of college. She scrapped the idea, later taking a minor in creative writing to continue the hobby that she dropped a year prior.

She continued to write a plethora of short stories in her college career, learning a lot and suffering through her own hardships along the way. College only proved to be more difficult as she learned the troublesome expectation and necessities that came with learning game development. She took an internship at a nearby middle school to teach kids about creative writing in an after-school program for a semester, learning more herself about connection and bonding with students. She went on to write a short novella as her final creative writing project before graduating, though her workload threw her into burnout from her beloved hobby.

After graduating in 2021, she found a job within the game industry, working through Quality Assurance work in a popular gaming engine. However, after 9 months, she decided to pursue a different path, overwhelmed by the gaming industry through all her experiences. She started a life coaching business to connect with people more closely, not receiving any clients, but attempting to find new career paths. She studied bartending and received a license, working at a restaurant for four months before moving to another state. She then worked by delivering pizzas before moving back and into another home.

She learned, through internal work, to overcome her burnout for writing and rekindled her passion, starting a new book all over again. Originating from an idea her friend had given her, she chose the topic for her new story and made the decision for it to become her first published novel. During writing, she discovered the idea for her next two books, developing more even during her revisions. Scarlet plans to continue her writing and make her place in the world, connecting with those around her and being a light to those who need it.
